The updated National Assistance Card includes several new features designed to improve communication, accessibility, and support.
We are pleased to announce a major update to the National Assistance Card, featuring a new Card design, an enhanced website, and improvements to our application portal.
These updates have been shaped by valuable feedback from cardholders and our lived experience Advisory Working Group. The aim was to create a more accessible, user-friendly experience that better meets the needs of our community.
What's new?
- Clearer wording on the front of the card asking for understanding and assistance
- More language options to describe a person’s main disability or health condition (e.g., I am a stroke survivor; I am neurodivergent)
- The option to include pronouns on the Card
- Braille characters "NAC" in the top corner to support people with vision impairment
- The ability to link up to two documents via the Card's QR code, helping cardholders share important information quickly and safely. (e.g., Personal Communication and Emergency Plans (P-CEPs), learning support summaries, epilepsy management plan)
These enhancements provide greater flexibility and help cardholders communicate their needs more effectively in everyday or emergency situations.
The new application system and updated website make it easier to learn about the Card, apply online, and manage information. The new system also supports cardholders to save a digital version of their Card on their phone for convenient access on the go.
Please see below for an example of the updated Card.
