Brain Injury Awareness Week Resources

Social Media Post - Brain Injury Awareness Week
It’s Brain Injury Awareness Week (18–24 August 2025).
Let’s raise awareness about the often-invisible impacts of brain injury and how we can all help build more inclusive communities.
Brain injury is defined as any damage or injury to the brain, occurring after birth, resulting in ongoing impairments.
Common causes of brain injury include motor vehicle crashes, assaults, sporting accidents, stroke, lack of oxygen to the brain, brain tumours and degenerative neurological conditions.
The impacts of brain injury can be physical, cognitive, emotional and/or behavioural – and they vary greatly from person to person. Just because you can’t see them, doesn’t make them any less real.
The National Assistance Card is a personalised communication tool that’s available to people with brain injury. Each Card includes areas of difficulty as identified by the cardholder, and a unique QR code, which once scanned shares a written or video message from the cardholder about how to best support them.
The Card can be used in everyday situations when people are shopping or accessing services, or in emergency situations.
